Guided Hike with Walk the Mournes | Grove of the Oaks Festival

Take part in a guided hike and discover the gorgeous sights of lower Mourne on our doorstep with Peter Rafferty from Walk the Mournes!

Leaving from Carrick Little Walkers Car Park, the guided hike will be an informative walk full of Mournes history and legends as we are guided through the "Men of the Mournes" hike.

The hike is described as:

“Through local adventurer, Peter, gain insights into the stories and legends of the “Men of the Mournes,” including the wall builders, the tunnel diggers, the soldiers and the smugglers. Learn about an era when Mourne granite was highly sought after and the mountains echoed with the sound of handpicks. Watch, as Peter shows you the tools, along with the “plug and feather” technique used to cut the stone and hear about the men who built the 22-mile long Mourne Wall that took 18 years to construct.”

The walk is roughly 8km and will last about 5 hours, be sure to bring boots or trail running shoes as well as a waterproof coat, hat, gloves, and a packed lunch.

The hike is on Saturday 21st October from 11am to 4pm with tickets available from £25 per person.
