Welcome to the Raise the Roof Campaign

What is the Raise the Roof campaign?

The committee here at Moneydarragh Hub are announcing our new ‘Raise the Roof’ fundraising campaign, with a goal of raising £60,000 to maintain, renovate, and repair Moneydarragh Hub.

In 2023 we applied for and received a Levelling Up grant to part-fund a refurbishment of Moneydarragh Hub’s roof, install solar panels, build accessibility ramps to the centre and surrounding mobiles, erect a new play park for public use, as well as other improvements to the space.

To bolster the project, we have also secured funding from Ulster Garden Villages, Arts Council NI, The National Lottery Fund, LFT Charitable Trust, and Community Finance Ireland and we now need a big push of community support to complete the project and keep Moneydarragh Hub open as a welcoming and evolving community space.

How you can help!

We are calling for donations of £10 and beyond to buy a ‘slate’ for the roof of Moneydarragh Hub. While the money doesn’t buy a real slate, it does help purchase the security to keep the roof on our centre and make sure we can preserve it for many years to come.

We also have received many kind donations available for purchase, with all proceeds going towards Moneydarragh Hub. These range from workshops, to fundraising days, to craft and artwork, to many more wonderful pieces of support.

Our Crowdfunder will be available soon to make donations to the campaign.

Donations can also be made here.

Launch Night

Raise the Roof Fundraising Concert at Longstone Hall

The first big fundraising night of our Raise the Roof campaign kicks off on Saturday 17th February at Longstone Hall!

Past-pupils and local talent are set to perform for a fantastic night of music, including the Anchor Ukes, John Harrison, and the Moneydarragh Melody Makers.

Tickets for the night are £10 per person, available to purchase at the door or online. Raffle tickets will be available on the night, as well as donation opportunities to purchase ‘slates’ and support the fundraising campaign.

Why do we need to maintain, renovate, and repair Moneydarragh Hub?

Moneydarragh Hub is based in the former Moneydarragh Primary School, a building which was first erected in 1898. While the school building had renovations in its time, it is now feeling the effects of age and is no longer up to modern health, safety, and sustainability standards.

  • While our slate roof is iconic, it has seen better days with its last renovation being several decades ago. Since then the roof has been battered by the elements, with slates breaking and slipping – exposing the roof felt. We’ve done what we can to keep the roof together, but it has now come time to re-tile. While renovating the roof, we will also install 16 of solar panels and a solar battery to begin generating and saving sustainable electricity!

  • Moneydarragh Hub is founded on uneven ground, with entrances to the main school building and surrounding mobiles often having several steps leading up to the door. These steps are a problem for our older attendees as well as parents with prams and people with disabilities. In this project we will be installing accessibility ramps to our main building and a majority of our mobiles to make sure everyone can safely access our facilities.

  • As a former primary school, most of our bathrooms were designed for children – being much lower to the ground than standard toilets. Similarly to stairs, these prove a problem to many of our attendees. Only one of our four mobiles also have dedicated toilets installed. Through this project we will install more adult toilets in our main building and outer mobiles, including accessible toilets for those with additional needs. Much like our bathrooms, our rooms contain small kitchenettes designed for children which will be renovated for more of our attendees to comfortably use.

  • The play park currently at Moneydarragh Hub has also been battered by weather and age and is due a replacement to make sure children have a safe space to explore, relax, and have fun. The new play park will provide exercise and fun for up to 12 children at a time – and will include equipment adapted for those with additional needs.
